Our story

Gringa Swimwear was born from a mix of cultures, passions, and sunshine. Founded in 2020 by Lola Nonnot, the brand draws its inspiration from the lifestyle of Brazilian beaches, French elegance, and the softness of the islands.

Lola was born in Bayonne, in the southwest of France, but quickly set sail. With a mother who was a flight attendant and a father passionate about water sports, she moved to Saint Martin, in the Caribbean, at only 4 years old. It is there that she developed her love for the ocean, warm sand, and of course swimsuits.

At 10 years old, the family moved to Brazil, in Bahia. There, she discovered a whole different bikini culture: high-cut, colorful styles that celebrate the body with naturalness and confidence. She instantly adopted these Brazilian bikinis that she would wear every day, at the beach as well as at home.

But at 15, Lola returned to the Basque Country to complete her Bac. Back in France, she experienced a real culture shock: the high-cut swimsuits she loved were almost impossible to find. A growing frustration arose, and with it, an idea took root.

After her Bac S in 2019, Lola decided to take a gap year, between Brazil and Saint Martin. She shared her daily life in swimsuits on Instagram and received more and more messages from French girls asking her to bring them those beautiful Brazilian bikinis.

That's where it all begins. She invested 1000 euros, found a local seamstress in Bahia, had a first mini collection made, and named it Gringa, a word used in Latin America to refer to foreigners. It was the nickname her Brazilian friends affectionately gave her, referring to her French and Dutch origins, and it has now become the symbol of a brand between two worlds.

Back in Biarritz in March 2020, she sold all her stock in 10 days. The success was immediate. She realized she had something special. She took advantage of the first lockdown to structure her brand, develop a website, and officially launch Gringa Swimwear in summer 2020.

Since then, Gringa has grown. Each collection is designed between France, Brazil, the Caribbean, and all the other destinations Lola has discovered through her travels, with flattering cuts, quality fabrics, and a vision: to create swimsuits for all girls who want to feel beautiful, confident, and free in the sun.
