About us
At Gringa Swimwear, our mission is to create high-quality swimwear for young women, inspired by Brazilian design while adhering to eco-friendly and ethical practices. We aim to offer unique pieces that inspire confidence and comfort, allowing women to feel beautiful, comfortable, and empowered, all while minimizing our environmental impact.
We value sustainability, authenticity, and the idea that every woman should feel beautiful and confident. Every Gringa bikini is carefully crafted, combining fashion with ecological consciousness. Inspired by the vibrant culture of Brazil and Lola's love for the ocean, our swimwear reflects freedom, style, and a commitment to reducing waste.
Gringa Swimwear was founded in June 2020 by Lola Nonnot, inspired by her love of bikinis and Brazilian beach culture. Having grown up in Saint-Martin and spent her teenage years in Bahia, Brazil, Lola was always accustomed to wearing Brazilian bikinis. Upon returning to France in 2016, she noticed a lack of well-cut swimsuits like those she was used to wearing.
The name "Gringa" comes from the word "Gringo," a term used in Brazil to describe foreigners. Lola’s Brazilian friends affectionately called her "Gringa" because of her foreign origins. This cute nickname, symbolizing her special connection with Brazil, eventually became the name of her brand, representing both her multicultural roots and her love for the country.
After completing her scientific baccalaureate in 2019 and unsure of which direction to take, Lola decided to take a gap year to reconnect with her childhood in Brazil and Saint-Martin. During this journey, she posted numerous photos and videos on Instagram, and soon began receiving messages from French women asking her to bring back Brazilian bikinis. This is where the idea of creating her own designs was born.
She returned to France just before the first lockdown in 2020. During those two months, she refined her concept and officially launched Gringa Swimwear, along with her first collection on the beaches of Biarritz and Anglet for the summer of 2020. Not wanting to limit herself to the Basque Country, she created a website to sell her collection worldwide.
From the beginning, each swimsuit was handmade by seamstresses in collaboration with Lola. As the brand grew, Gringa Swimwear established partnerships with trusted suppliers to increase production while maintaining our eco-friendly values. Every step of the process is designed to minimize waste, from creating small, efficient packaging to choosing sustainable materials.
